Settings
Configure how Neto monitors your network and who can access the dashboard.
WiFi credentials
Neto connects to each band separately to test them independently. Enter the network name (SSID) and password for each band. These are usually on a sticker on your router.
The name of your 2.4 GHz WiFi network exactly as it appears on your devices.
Password
Leave blank if open
Your WiFi password. Leave blank for open (unsecured) networks.
The name of your 5 GHz WiFi network. Often the same as 2.4 GHz with _5G appended.
Password
Leave blank if open
Usually the same as your 2.4 GHz password.
💡
If your router uses the same SSID for both bands (band steering), enter the same name in both fields. Neto will test them in sequence and the router will determine which band is used for each connection.
Test targets
These settings control what Neto tests against on each cycle.
External ping IP
Default: 8.8.8.8
The IP address used for the external latency test. Defaults to Google's DNS server. You can change this to any reliable public IP — 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) is a good alternative.
DNS test hostname
Default: google.com
The domain name resolved during the DNS test using your DHCP-assigned DNS server. Any reliably-available domain works.
Webpage URL
Default: detectportal.firefox.com
The URL fetched during the webpage test. The default is a tiny Mozilla page that returns a consistent small response — ideal for timing tests. Change this if you want to test against a specific site.
WiFi interface
Default: wlan0
The network interface Neto uses for WiFi testing. Only change this if you've added a secondary WiFi adapter and want to use it instead.
Schedule & speed
Test interval
Default: 5 minutes
How often Neto runs a full test cycle. Lower values give more granular data but use more CPU and bandwidth. Minimum is 1 minute; 5 minutes is recommended for most users.
Ping packet count
Default: 5
Number of ping packets sent per test. More packets gives a more accurate packet loss percentage but takes longer. 5 is a good balance — increase to 10–20 if you want more reliable packet loss readings.
Speedtest
Default: Enabled
Enable or disable the automated speedtest on each cycle. The speedtest takes 20–40 seconds and uses real bandwidth. Disable if you have a very limited data plan or want faster test cycles.
⚠️
With speedtest enabled and a 5-minute interval, Neto will run approximately 288 speedtests per day — each using several hundred MB of data. On an unlimited broadband plan this is fine. If you have a data cap, consider increasing the interval or disabling speedtest.
Dashboard login
Change the username and password used to access the Neto dashboard. The default credentials are admin / admin — change these immediately after setup.
The username for the dashboard login page.
New password
Leave blank to keep current
Leave the password field blank to keep your existing password. Enter a new password only when you want to change it.
⚠️
The Neto dashboard has no HTTPS by default — it runs over plain HTTP on your local network. Don't use the same password as your router, email, or other important accounts.
Automatic updates
Update channel
Default: Stable
Stable — thoroughly tested releases, recommended for most users. Beta — early access to new features, may occasionally have bugs.
Auto-install updates
Default: Notify only
Notify only — Neto checks for updates hourly and shows a notification when one is available. You install it manually from the Update page. Auto-install — updates are downloaded and installed automatically, then the service restarts.
Clearing all data
The Clear all results button in the Danger Zone section permanently deletes all test results and system stats from the database. This cannot be undone.
⚠️ This action cannot be undone
Clearing all results removes every test result, speedtest, ping, DNS and system stat from the database. Your WiFi credentials, login password, licence key, and settings are not affected. Use this if you want to start fresh after a configuration change or hardware move.
