Neto can be updated in two ways — both are done entirely through the dashboard. No SD card removal, no CLI access, no technical knowledge required.
Automatic OTA update
Neto checks for updates automatically and installs them in the background. Go to Update in the nav to check for and install the latest version.
Manual zip upload
Download a zip file and upload it directly on the Update page. Useful if the Pi has no internet access or you want to install a specific version.
Automatic update checks
Neto checks for new versions every hour in the background. When an update is available, you'll see a notification on the Update page.
You can control this behaviour in Settings → Automatic updates:
- Notify only (default) — shows a notification when an update is available. You decide when to install it.
- Auto-install — downloads and installs updates automatically, then restarts the Neto service. Results in a ~10 second interruption to the dashboard.
Updating via the dashboard
Go to the Update page
Click Update in the navigation bar at the top of the dashboard.
Check for updates
Click Check for updates. Neto connects to the update server and compares the available version with what's installed. This takes a few seconds.
Install if available
If a newer version is available, click Download & install. Neto downloads the update, verifies it, and installs it automatically. A progress bar shows the status.
Wait for restart
After installing, the Neto service restarts automatically. The page will reload once it's back up — usually within 10–15 seconds.
What gets updated
An OTA update replaces the Neto application files only:
- Python application code
- Dashboard templates and styles
- Static assets (logo, icons)
The following are never modified by an update:
- Your WiFi credentials and settings
- All monitoring data (test results, graphs history)
- Your dashboard username and password
- Your licence key and activation
- The database file (
results.db)
Stable vs beta channel
Neto has two update channels, selectable in Settings → Automatic updates:
- Stable (default) — thoroughly tested releases. Recommended for all users.
- Beta — early access to new features before they're released to stable. May occasionally have minor bugs. Useful if you want to try new features early.
You can switch channels at any time. Switching from beta back to stable will update to the latest stable version even if it's older than the beta you're running.
